Wee Willie Winkie runs through the town,
upstairs and downstairs in his nightgown;
rapping at the windows,
crying at the locks,
"Are you children fast asleep?
For now it’s eight o’clock!"

"Yes Willie were asleep...."

He knows they’re hiding under pillows.
They’re all wound up in sheets –
cold noses, warm toes and tiny little feet.
They’re cuddled up and snuggled down,
hugging furry things.
The kids are very quiet now –
too quiet, Willie thinks!
